FG lifts Saints after Falcons come up short on 4th down in OT
A disconsolate Mike Smith watched the chip-shot field goal sail through the uprights, then walked slowly across the field, his head down, to shake hands with the other coach.
Smith knew this loss was on him. John Kasay kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime after the Atlanta coach decided to go for it on fourth down deep in his own territory Sunday, a decision that backfired horribly and handed the New Orleans Saints a 26-23 victory over the Falcons.

RE: FG lifts Saints after Falcons come up short on 4th down in OT
I feel like the Saints defense was really exposed on that final drive in the 4th quarter before overtime. They were very lucky to be able to hold it to a tying field goal and get a chance in overtime. The falcons just charged right down the field at the end in a hurry up offense while the saints couldn't manage to even line up quickly enough at times to be ready for the play.

The Saints haven't had much of a defense for the last couple of years. It's one area that they've struggled in for a loooong time. Fortunately, they were able to hold the Falcons back for most of the game--especially in overtime, when they needed to the most.

That game made me really sad. I had to hear from my co worker about that one for weeks. *sigh*

As a Saints fan, I agree that the our defense has not been good for quite some time now. Unfortunately, we have yet to make it better even with all the defensive draft picks we've been making. Hey, I can't complain though because our offense is killer and we got another W.

Greg Williams is obviously not the panacea when it comes to our defense. However, they are better with Williams than without him. Once upon a time, the Titans would have walked into the end zone in the last few seconds to win a game like the one played yesterday. Seeing as the Saints have clinched the wildcard, though, I don't see fans complaining much about the team's efforts. Next week, we clinch the division.

I agree they are better with Williams than without him. Mistakes happen and it was a good game.
