Clinton Portis hopes to play again
Running back Clinton Portis hasn't given up hope on playing in the NFL again.

Portis, who sat out the 2011 season after being released by the Washington Redskins, told NFL.com that he has his passion back after being "heartbroken" after the Redskins cut him.

"I'm ready to go back, ready to work things out and I'm open to idea of going out to prove that I can still play," Portis told NFL.com. "I just turned 30 and with nine years in the NFL and six 1,000-yard seasons that's enough right there to show what I can do. I'm just ready to go prove to whatever team that's ready and willing to open the doors to go out and prove it."

RE: Clinton Portis hopes to play again
Im suprised no one would grab him as a backup running back. Im sure he would be a good mentor kind of a Tomlinson type of back.

I totally forgot about him. He had some great seasons, but as we all know the longevity of a RB is not very long. We see players have great years to being a back-up the next. I'm sure teams would take a chance on him if they felt he was still physically capable of playing.

Im sure there is something we don't know about him that nfl execs do. Otherwise they would be crazy not to sign him.

Well you don't usually see too many RB's have down years and bounce back. Once they get injured and don't produce, they're usually done. If they have bad years, it usually means their bodies have broken down and they can't handle the load anymore as a RB.

You know, I forgot all about Clinton Portis. And the bad part is he was a good running back. I guess too many things over shined him at the time and that's why nobody noticed him even being gone.

It happens when you get injured and are out of the spotlight. Injuries are really a huge part of Football and it's no uncommon for one injury to essentially end a career or at least have it never be the same again.

RE: Clinton Portis hopes to play again
Unless Clinton Portis has an outstanding workout with a team or has some speed left in those legs I just don't see him starting for any team in the NFL right now. Let's face it, it's a passing league and RB's right now are pretty easy to find if you have a good passing game. I think with a resume of his caliber as well he's expecting to get paid and I just don't see any team getting a good return out of a player who has been injury prone and took a year off, and is way older than the average running back.

RE: Clinton Portis hopes to play again
ICTOAN brings up some good points, I don't think anyone would be willing to shell out any decent amount of money for a running back that has taken a year off and has been prone to injuries in the past. If it was me I probably wouldn't be jumping in line to pick him up, but on the other hand if the price was right I would probably give him a shot you never know stranger things have happened he could come back and crush people, or at least like was said be a mentor to some young and upcoming player.
